Letter of the President Dear Members, The feeling I have is that the second year of my 2005/2007 term, closing on 31st December 2006, can be considered “memorable” in the history of UNI. The 85th year of UNI’s activity actually marks not only the full achievement of the operating and economic goals set out in our budget, but also the realization and the official opening of our new premises, fully owned by our organization for the first time.
The celebration of the World standards day 2006, held on last 30th October, was the occasion chosen for this official opening: the event was attended by many Members and many experts, who have been devoting their time, their expertise and their personal skills to the standards-making activities that UNI and its Associated Bodies are carrying out at national and international level. Please, let me express to all of them my personal admiration and my heartfelt thanks. Addresses were made by relevant personalities coming from the educational, the academic and the industrial community, as well as from the one of professional training, of consumers and of public authorities, thus proving the importance attached to standardization, which can appear not properly actual but is, anyway, deeply connected with all activities, be they carried out by entrepreneurs, consumers, researchers and administrators, all in all, by citizens. Thanks to the participation of the Secretary General of ISO, Alan Bryden, and of the President of CEN, Juan Carlos López Agüí, this event took also an international meaning, which is, for UNI, an added value, fully pertaining to its nature of standards body. Our relation to CEN and ISO has strongly strengthened in these latest years, in parallel with the growing role played by the italian economy in the international market. A successful year came to an end and a new one is starting up, bringing about new challenges and new goals: UNI is very confident that they can be achieved, while counting on Members’ support and on the pivotal and indispensable one offered by all our experts and our Associated Bodies.
