About 2006: Certification

UNI mark
The UNI conformity mark is a registered mark, owned by UNI, which declares the conformity of products and services with the standards issued by UNI itself.
This is based on tests, on the acceptation of manufacturer’s quality assessment system and on the surveillance of the production, which may be carried out by testing samples taken from the factory and/or from the market and through a periodical check of the manufacturer’s quality system.
The UNI product certification system implies the use of several certification bodies, which are charged by us, on the basis of specific agreements, with the application of this mark.
The importance that enterprises should attach to UNI mark is due to the following reasons:

  • it strengthens consumers’ confidence, by proving the quality of the products;
  • it makes the difference in comparison with their competitors;
  • it increases their expertise and knowledge;
  • it supplies a tool for a better management;
  • it helps widen their market and promote their imagine.

From consumers’ side, this mark assures that the relevant product complies with specifications of safety, quality, performance and reliability, laid out in national, European and international standards, and which represent an impartial reference for what customers need.
In 2006 the use of our mark was licensed -for the first time- to an enterprise manufacturing gully and manhole tops. As to the field of glass, the enterprises provided with UNI mark are more than 100 so far, for a total number of over than 630 certified products. In the market of flat-glasses for buildings the products bearing a UNI certification are:

  • insulating glasses over 60%
  • laminated glasses over 80%
  • heat-treated glasses over 20%

Certification activity remarkably increased in the field of services, by granting a licence to 6 new private surveillance companies, in compliance with the UNI 10891 standard “Services - Private surveillance companies - Requirements”.

Keymark
Keymark is the european conformity mark, owned by CEN and CENELEC. It is voluntary and is handled by third party bodies, who guarantee that a product is in compliance with the requirements laid out in european standards. This makes more trustful the marks coming from different european countries and aligns the quality level of single national certification schemes.
All certification bodies working in one of the CEN/CENELEC member countries, provided with the certification scheme of an accredited product and in conformity with an european standard, may apply to CEN, through its national standards body, for being entitled to release the Keymark.
In the case of Italy, the body in charge is UNI: the latter, after checking that the applying certification body meets all the requirements requested by european regulations, submits the application to the CEN Certification Board for the relevant final approval.
During 2006 the licence for Keymark was supplied to the first five italian enterprises - which were already in possess of the UNI mark - that produce ceramic tiles in compliance with UNI EN 14411 standard.
