Pathways to CEN/TC 465/WG 4 “Industrial Symbiosis for Sustainable Cities and
Communities”.

Industrial-Urban Symbiosis (I-US) represents a key approach to advancing circular economy strategies by fostering collaboration between industries and urban systems. Through the exchange of underutilised resources – including materials, energy, water, and knowledge – Industrial Symbiosis enables more efficient use of resources and supports sustainability transitions in cities.

This open workshop aims to bring together stakeholders from research, industry, public authorities, and standardization to explore how knowledge generated in research and innovation projects can be translated into standardization activities, particularly within the framework of CEN/CENELEC.

Participants will gain insights into ongoing initiatives, discuss challenges and opportunities for Industrial Urban Symbiosis, and identify pathways towards the development of European standardization deliverables starting with CWA 17354:2018 “Industrial Symbiosis: Core Elements and Implementation Approaches”. • Identify standardization needs and priorities in Industrial Symbiosis
• Encourage stakeholder engagement in CEN activities and working groups (WG)

The open workshop will provide the opportunity understand the standardisation being applied to the I-US and interact with the leading experts working on this standardisation.

La Simbiosi Industriale-Urbana (I-US) rappresenta un approccio chiave per promuovere strategie di economia circolare, favorendo la collaborazione tra industrie e sistemi urbani. Attraverso lo scambio di risorse utilizzate parzialmente – come materiali, energia e acqua – la Simbiosi Industriale consente un uso più efficiente delle risorse e supporta la transizione verso la sostenibilità nelle città.

Questo workshop aperto mira a riunire stakeholder provenienti dalla ricerca, dall’industria, dalle autorità pubbliche e dalla standardizzazione, per esplorare come le conoscenze generate nei progetti di ricerca e innovazione possano essere tradotte in attività di standardizzazione, in particolare nel quadro del CEN/CENELEC.

Chi partecipa avrà l’opportunità di approfondire le iniziative in corso, analizzare le sfide e le opportunità legate alla Simbiosi Industriale-Urbana, oltre a individuare dei percorsi per lo sviluppo di deliverable di standardizzazione europei, a partire dal CWA 17354:2018 “Industrial Symbiosis: Core Elements and Implementation Approaches”.
