BIORECER: Biological Resources Certifications Schemes

Information

About project

Objectives

Project objectives

In the light of the above, the BIORECER research consortium aims to realise three main technological pillars:

Development of a multidimensional assessment framework for an aggregated analysis of biological raw materials and their supply chains.

Creation of a BIORECER Innovation Ecosystem living lab (BRIE) with a multi-agent approach to test the framework in four case studies with different biological raw material origins and regional value chains in Spain, Italy, Greece and Sweden.

Use of the generated knowledge to complement existing certification schemes, including new criteria for the certification of sustainability, origin and traceability of biological resources, and ensure applicability on a European and global scale.

Results

Concrete actions

  • Analyze the entire bio-based value chains (mapping of raw materials and production processes)
  • Improve the estimation of raw material properties
  • Adapt certification schemes to include environmental performance and sustainability of by-products and waste
  • Acceleration in the adoption of biobased raw materials by industry and consumers (increased willingness to pay a green premium) thus increasing their added value and benefits for stakeholders/society/nature.
